Sarah Merton. Newport

P h o t o g r a p h r a p h y

"My home town is Newport, Cardiff's smaller cousin. Now I am very much aware that in 2002 it was awarded city status, but when I was born in 1985 it was very much my homeTOWN and will always be regarded as a town in my eyes. The city label has never really fit for me."

1. Bus Drivers. (Left) "I love my hometown because of the community spirit, such as how this bus driver shared his lunch with me, whilst I took his street portrait during a photography walk!"

2. Close up of the Chartist Mural.

(Bottom left) "This is a close up of Newport's beloved Chartist Mural, which was sadly torn down a few years ago.  The expression fittingly reflects the local anguish felt. It was the mise en scene to many a childhood cone of chips!"

3. Crest. (Below) "I love Newport's crest because when the Stone Roses played TJs many moons ago they decided to feature it on one of their subsequent record sleeves!"
